Gynecologic Ultrasound

Gynecologic conditions can also be diagnosed most of the time with the aid of sonography. Ovarian cysts, fibroid tumors (leiomyomas)uterine polypscongenital abnormalities, and female cancers can bediagnosed with the aid of ultrasound.

Having your ultrasound done here offers the advantage of having the interpretation done by the same doctor who will be making the recommendations for treatment. This decreases any communication problems between physicians. Ultrasound is comfortable and convenient at our office and can often be done at the same time as other testing such as lab workmammography, and bone density testing. Insurance issues often interfere with our ability to do sonograms at the time of annual screening exams, but your sonogram can be conveniently scheduled at another time.

Ultrasound testing is also available even if you do not regularly get your care in our office. Your doctor can order it for you.

Obstetrical Ultrasound

Ultrasound can be used to evaluate the size and anatomy of the fetus.  Unlike X-ray, ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of the growing fetus.  This technique has been used during pregnancy for more than 20 years and no harmful effects have been demonstrated in the mother or unborn fetus.  It is used along with other test to detect problems with the fetus’s environment, growth, and anatomy.  However, not all defects and condition can be detected by ultrasound.

Digital Mammography

Digital mammography has improved the detection of early breast cancer significantly. This allows the cancer to be removed before it spreads from the breast. This decreases mortality and allows for less invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. We offer screening digital mammography in our office. This makes your annual screening much more convenient. With proper scheduling you can have your digital mammogram and annual physical at the same visit.

This has been shown to significantly improve the images for women ages 40-50, premenopausal women, and women with denser breast tissue. Recent studies have shown that digital mammography found 15-28% more cancers in women under 50, 15% more cancers in women with dense breasts, and 21% more cancers in premenopausal women than conventional mammography. Women’s Medical Connection of New Jersey is dedicated to providing the highest quality healthcare. We our proud to use the latest digital technology.

Bone Density Testing

Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans or 55 percent of the people50 years of age and older. In the U.S., 10 million individuals are estimated to already have the disease and almost 34 million more are estimated to have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis. People affected are at significant risk for bone fractures. Unfortunately the first symptom people experience is a painful bone fracture. This can be debilitating and require hospitalization, nursing home care, and a prolonged convalescence. Up to one third are not fortunate enough to recover at all and die from conditions related to the trauma.

Fortunately there is testing available to detect bone loss before a person suffers from a fracture. There are a variety of medicines available that have been shown to improve the density of bone and decrease fractures.

Bone density testing is simple, painless, and convenient at our office. Our Hologic ™ DEXA machine can adjust for both sex and race, giving the most accurate measurements of your bone density. With proper scheduling you can receive your test at the same time as your annual screening health exam. Bone density testing is also available even if you do not regularly get your care in our office. Your doctor can order it for you.
